QUESTION OF AMENDMENTS. COMMITTEE OF INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Preaa section. Wellington, Last Night. The inter-sessional committee, consisting of Messrs. Hockley (chairman), Harris, Isitt, Sir J. Luke, Lysnar, McCallum, Savage, Statham, Witty, Wright, and the Prime Minister, «et up by the House of Representatives last session “to consider, in the interests of the public and generally for its more satisfactory working, what amendments are requiring in the present Licensing Act,” is to meet at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, March 16. Tha committee was established largely at the instance of Mr. R. McCallum, M.P. for Wairau, who has introduced the Licensing Act Amendment Bills session after session with a view to improving the conditions under which the trade is carried on. Mr. McCallum repeatedly urged last session the need for an amending Act, in view of the possibility of no-license not being carried at the poll in connection with the general elections in December next.
