THE LOSS REDUCED. %!»• DAILY DEFICIT NOW £3OOO. BETTER REVENUE RETURNS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. “The daily loss on the railways of the Dominion has been reduced by £1000,” said the Hon. D. H. Guthrie (Minister for Railways) to-day. "That brings the daily loss at present down to £3000.” The Minister added: “And that is after allowing for the payment of interest on capital invested. Excluding provision for interest on capital invested the actual revenue for the last four weekly period exceeded the expenditure by £240,000.” Mr. Guthrie said the amounts he had mentioned were in round figures only, and he intended making a full statement of the present position of railway finance in a few days.
