; 1 A MAORI DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, March 3. A Maori, Mata Kawa, was drowned at the mouth of the Wsiapu River yea* terday. Deceased was with a part] fishing. A boat got adrift, and, in endeavoring to recover it, he lost ate. i STATION HAND SHOT. - Gisborne, March 3. I Richard Donald, aged 30, a statiot han<r, was fatally shot yesterday al Paremata, near Tolaga Bay. had visited a settler’s house and entered one of the rooms. The settle! and another visitors were outside, and hearirfk a gunshot, rushed in and found Donald dead with a wound in hie heed the shot having evidently been fired from a gun in the room. An inquest was held to-day. TIMBER MILL ACCIDENT. Rotorua, March 3. There was a serious accident at Onga* roto. A truck carrying m&tai logs wad derailed, and two ’men, W. A. Given and E. Campbell, pinned underneath thq logs. Given, who was? unconscious was sent to the King George Hospital in a commandeered car. The hospital ambulance brought Campbell. Thd roads were terrible after heavy rain* The extent of their injuries has not yet, been determined. Given was a widower with one child, and Campbell married.
