ELTHAM.

THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW. Arrangements for the Horticultural and Produce Show at the Town Hall, Eliham, on Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, are proceeding with energy. Entries are being received from a very wide area, districts as far away as New Plymouth, Inglewood, Omoana, Opunake, Mokoia, and Meremere being represented. The children's classes in garden produce, map drawing and hand writing are rapidly filling, whilst the housewife’s section promises a very large number of entries. Pot plants and cut flowers are well in the running for top score, and it is doubtful which of these sections will outbid the other. Fatun produce is making a great fight against, the produce of the garden. Fancy work seems likely to throw in the shade the many exhibits of painting and drawing which are promised. Probably the greatest enthusiasm is to be found in the garden competition. A casual survey of the many gardens that will come under the judge’s survey, gives the impression that the selection of the best kept garden will be a mast difficult task. The very diversity of plan is confusing to the effort to form an opinion, and the taste exercised generally m setting out the gardens inclines one to give up the effort. We have heard many views from those who are supposed to possess good judgment in such matters, but they give no clear perception of the probable choice of the judges. Because of the widespread interest that rs being taken in the show, and the consequent heavy task that is being thrown upon the organisers, the committee is making a special appeal for help in getting the Town Hall ready, and in staging the exhibits in IholF various seebuhs-
