SIGNS OF THE SEASON. THE STAR CLUB'S MEETING. PAST SEASON REVIEWED. The annual meetins of the Star Football Club was held at the Soldiers' Club last night, there being an attendance of about 4® members. In the absence in Auckland of tho president (Mr. S. J. Smith), from whom an apology was received. Mr B. Spence presided The annual report for the season 1»21 stated: In presenting the report and bal-ance-sheet your committee desires to congratulate the members on the successful issue of the season, having a credit balance of £&6 2s fid. liabilities nil. The teams' Interest and positions held in various competitions were: Senior, R grade, runners-up; second grade, third; third grade, fourth, fourth grade, second. Our committee desires to congratulate C. S. Dunford on gaining a place in the representatives. The annual matches for the Dan O’Brien and Carbine side Ida were played and resulted in our seniors being defeated by three points (a ;>c!ialty goal) for the former and our juniors comfortably retaining the latter. Our success in the different grades Is no doubt attributed to the keenness displayed- by tl e players, who have fought theli nintcli.s very hard, and under better conditions with improved facilities for night training will continue to show they are worthy exponent* of the game. Congratulations are extended t*» jdayers who have had tie distinct lun n,’ winning medals, viz., C. S. Dunford (senior, donated by Mr. J. Hoskin). H. Hoffmann (fourth grade, donated by Mr. Hughes). Mascall (re-elect-ed), L. A. Nolan; executive, Messrs. T. O’Conno)!, H. J. Patterson, W. Deane, T. Harley, J. Bowler, E. Hurley, W. Stumiey, A. Betts, P. Hill; joint secretaries, Messrs. J. A. Clarke and P. A. Sims; club captain, Mr. R. Spence; vice-captain, Mr. H. J. Patterson ; delegates to Taranaki Rugby Union. Messrs. Sims and Clarke (in the event of Mr. Clarke being unable tn accept the appointment Mr. Patterson was appointed as substitute); hon. auditor, Mr. A. L. Humphries. GENERAL. A vote of thanks was accorded last year's president (Mr. S. J. Smith) for bis services. The subscription for honorary members was fixed at 10s for the season and 2s 6d for all playing members. The matter of insurance was left for the executive to arrange. It was decided to nominate one team in each of the first, second, third and fourth grades. The date of the official opening practice , was fixed for March 11. It was resolved that a selector be appointed for each grade, to confer with the captain and vice-captain of each grade in selecting the teams. Selectors were appointed as follows: Messrs. A. Bartlett (senior), J, Clarke (second grade), T. Billing (third), P. Sheppard (fourth). It waj decided to approach the Central School Committee for the use of their gymnasium for night training, ns was done during the latter part of last season. The delegates to the Rugby Union were instructed to draw the union’s attention to the state of the shed at Western Park. An. honorarium of £2 2s was voted io eacn of the last season’s secretaries. In proposing the vote of the chairman asked players to give the referees "a fair go” this year, as they were blamed for everything, when the fault often lay with tte players themselves, who should, in any case, accept the referee’s decision na final.
