THEFTS BY A DOMESTIC.
WEARING APPAREL STOLEN. HOME BURNED DOWN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. A domestic servant named Edna Alma Hunt, aged 18, pleaded guilty at the Temuka Court to-day to charges of breaking and entering and stealing goods, chiefly wearing apparel, of the value of £3O from the house of John Davey, a farmer in the Rangitira valley. She also pleaded guilty to a similar offence in similar circumstances from the house of Frank Green, in the same district, stealing goods valued at £26; and further, with setting fire to the dwelling, which was burned down with its contents valued at £lO6O and insured for £5OO. The girl packed the articles and sent them by post to her sister in Pleasant Valley. The suspicions of the police were aroused by a constable seeing parcels posted at a rural mail box. The girl, in a statement, said she did not know why she did such things, but she always realised that it was wrong afterwards. The case of theft from her employer was dealt with summarily and on the other charges prisoner was remanded to the Supreme Court with bail. Mr. Mosley, S.M., said she was not fit to be at large.
