METHODIST CONFERENCE.
YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Methodist Conference received a deputation from the Anglican and Presbyterian Churches, bearing felicitations on the work of the century and expressing ' goodwill and fellowship. Speakers all expressed a desire for unity of the churches in confronting the problems of the day, saying that this would strengthen the desire for closer union. A discussion on the spiritual aspect of the church’s activities was opened by the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse, who spoke on “The Call of the Future.” The Rev. John Dawson, the delegate to the recent Ecumenical Methodist Conference in London, spoke on the wbrk of that gathering. The report of the literature committee showeu that the Methodist Tynes had an increasing circulation and during the year had paid, its way. The resignation of the Rev. W. J.' Williams was received with regret and a cordial tribute was paid him for his distinguished service as editor over a period of 18 years. The Rev. J. Napier-Milne was appointed editor, with the Rev. P. R. Jar is as associate. The Rev. Rugby Pratt introduced the report of the Welfare of Church committee. It was decided to publish a book of responsive services and a special committee was set up to compile same. A revision of th© book of offices was also decided upon. The question of Bible teaching in schools was brought before the inference by Mr. J. C. Pmdhoe, of Christchurch, in a resolution suggesting Bible teaching by teachers, with a conscience clause both for teachers and parents and without the right of entry by clergy. Lesson books are to be prepared by representatives of education boards and the churches.
