WALL STREET FAILURES. By Telegraph.—Preaa Assn —Copyright. New York, Feb. 27. Four brokerage houses have collapsed today. These failures are members of the Consolidated Stock Exchange, as were the others notified last week. Regular stock exchange members are unaffected. BRADFORD WOOL MARKET. Received Feb. 28, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 27. The Bradford wool market is quiet; sixtyfours 48d, sixties 4ld to 43d. BRITISH STOCK EXCHANGE. Received Feb. 28, 5.5 p.m. London, Fe>b. 27. The Stoek Exchange is less active, and British gilt-edged stocks are easier. Consols su%d. DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Feb. 28. The third Dunedin wool sales of the season were held to-day. The opening transactions showed that medium, halfbred and merino maintained their values, while other sorts were slightly lower compared with last sale. The best biddings were first halfbred 12*4d, second halfbreds 12d, fine crossbreds fine crossbred hogget 9%d. LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable, dated February 25, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London. MEAT. The predominating feature of the market is still a very large quantity of chilled beef being sold at low pricee, practically preventing the sale of frozen beef. Fair demand continues for New Zealand mutton and lamb; prices remain steady. New Zealand Mutton.—Light-weight: February 25, 7%d to 7%-d; February 11, 7%d to 7%d. Heavy-weight: February 25, 7d; February 18, 7d; February 11, 7d. Ewes (lightweight) : February 25, 6 l-8d; February 18, 6 l-8d; February 11, 6%d. New Zealand Lamb.—Light-weight: February 25, 10%d to 10%d; February 18, 19%d to 10%<i: February 11, 10%d to lOd. Heavyweight: February 25, lOd; February 18, lOd; February 11, lOd. New season’s lamb selling on market at ll%d to Is per lb. New Zealand Beef.—Hinds: February 25, 4d; February 18, 4%d; February 11, 4%d. Fores: February 25, 3d; February 18, 3d; February 11, 3*4d. Purely nominal. Chilled.— Hinds: February 25, 5 l-8d; February 18, s’Ad; February 11, 5%d. Fores: February 25, 3%d; February 18, 3 5-8 d; February 11, 3 7-Bd. BUTTER. Very little change in general position. Demand for New Zealand has improved somewhat and' prices remain steady. Danish supplies still very scarce and quotations nominal. (Is 3d to Is 3%d per lb) ; February IS, 150 s to 160 s per cwt (Is 4d to Is 5d per lb) ; February 11, 158 s to 165 s per cwt (Is Sd to Is 5%d per lb) ; February 25, exceptional 148 s per cwt (Is 3%d per lb). CHEESE. English in good demand but scarce. Imported rattier easier tone. Present quotations New Zealand.—February 25: Colored, 98s to 102 s per cwt to lid per lb) ; white 86s to 90s per cwt (9%d to 9%d per lb). February 18: Colored 100 s to 102 s per cwt (10%d to lid per lb), white 90s to 94s per cwt (9%d to lOd per lb). February 11: Colored 98s to 100 s per cwt. (10%d to 10%d per lb), white 90s to 94s per cwt (9%d to lOd per lb). CASEIN. Present quotations are: New Zealand rennet, £6O per ton; French, £65 per ton. OTHER ADVICES. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office, under date February 24: Butter.—-Market quiet. Finest 136 s to 138 s per cwt. Cheese.—Fair demand for colored; demand slow for white. Colored, 98s to 101 s per cwt; white, 86s to 88s per cwt. Frozen Meat.—Mutton and lamb stocks light and prices are fairly well maintained. Beef prices are nominal, and are affected to a considerable extent by heavy arrivals of chilled. which is selHfig at reduced prices. Turnbull and Co. have received a cablegram from Messrs Weddel and Co., Ltd., dated February 22, advising as follows :—“At tallow auctions to-day 2000 casks entered, 935 sold; fair demand."
AUCKLAND SHARE MARKET. Auckland, Last NightSales on the Stock Exchange to-day were: War Loan, 1938, £9O; New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1927, £93 10s; National Bank, £5 16s; Auckland Tramways, l<e 9d. H INGLEWOOD SALE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The sale on Saturday at Newton King, Ltd.’s mart attracted a full attendance. A good number of pigs were submitted, and though getting late in the season, 53 were sold and late market prices were well maintained. Weaners made from 7s to 12s, slips to small stores up to 325, sow 40s. Cocks and hens sold for Is to 2s 6d, ducks Is fid, cockerels Is 6<L Apples made 3s 6d to 4s 6d per box, pears 5s per case, and tomatoes from 3s 6d to 6s per case. General sundries were readily sold a - ' satisfactory rates.
