SCHAPIRO’S ART COLLECTION

A GENEROUS OFFER. On Thursday next, at the Soldiers’ Club, New Plymouth, Webster Bros, will submit to auction the valuable art treasures in Mr. Sehapiro’s unique and rare collection. These famous paintings, 1 executed by the world’s past and present great masters, are all genuine works. Already more than half of the collection has been sold. an<L with rhe exception of some half-dozen great and costly paintings, the balance will be sold on Thursday without reserve. Indeed, should the unreserved portion be quitted, Mr. Schapiro is prepared to disregard the reserves on the others, which will also go to the highest bidder at auction. Such a change of securing valuable paintings occurs only once in the Hfe of the average lover of great works of art, and they should, therefore, appreciate the action of Mt. Schapiro in selling without reserve. The sale also offers an unique opportunity to parents of girls and boys at the High and State schools. Any parent who could secure cne or more of these pictures and make a gift to the school their Children attend, would be conferring a benefit and boon on all pupils. Not only his own children would have the opportun ; ty of viewing these pictures, but the whole of the pupils; and who knows but what the genius of a Reubens or Landseer may not be present in the classes, end by studying these art treasures be inspired to styive to emulate these immortal masters, and so become worthy alike of their school and country?
