CRICKET.

NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITION. - PLAY ON SATURDAY. Good cricketing weather prevailed for the continuance of the North Taranaki competitions on Saturday. In the "A" grade the matches were on the New Plymouth grounds. Two of the visiting teams scored wins, Waitara beating New Plymouth, and Urenui getting the verdict over High School. Inglewood were defeated by Old Boys. The “B” grade matches resulted in New Plymouth defeating Western Park and Bell Block beating Harbor Works. The Waitara eleven defeated School 111, and Urenui gained the decision over Old Boys. The results are ; “A” GRADE. WAITARA v. NEW PLYMOUTH. Waitara journeyed to New Plymouth, and on the racecourse No. 1 ground defeated New Plymouth by a margin of 23 runs, each side playing one Innings. Waitara made 93, W. Kingston giving a fine display in compiling 59 runs. He had the fortune, however, to be dropped twice. The only other batsman to make double figures was Ross (14). and the partnership between Kingston and Ross provided a good display. Of the New /Plymouth bowlers. Inch took three wickets for 20 runs, giving a promising performance, and Clarke had the good average of five for 35. Of the total of 71 made by New Plymouth, Ferry (20) was the only batsman to compile double figures. The bowling of Easton was a feature. He continued unchanged for Waitara, and took six wickets for 20 runs. Kingston gave a good exhibition as wicket-keeper, and his fielding was also excellent. URENUI v. HIGH SCHOOL. Urenui got the decision over High School by 30 runs on the first innings. The school eleven’s first stand at the wickets realised 69. Palmer playing well for 28, Taylor 12 and Brodie 11 not out being the best of the other scorers. Blundell and C. Foreman each secured five wickets. Urenui secured 99 runs (Sarten 21 and Blundel( 17). Brown was the most successful bowler, getting four wickets for 25 runs, and Mahraj’s average was four for 32. Batting again, School had seven wickets down for 62 when stumps were drawn (Taylor not out 17, Brown 13). Wilson took two wickets for 6 runs, and Baker two for 7. Details are: HIGH SCHOOL. • i,. On the racecourse No. 2 ground Old Boys defeated Inglewood on the first innings by 52 runs. They declared the innings with seven wickets down for 93, of which Bottrill contributed a nice 38, Monteath 20, and Bewley 16 also batting well. Coutts took seven wickets for 38 runs. Inglewood were dismissed for 41, the batsmen failing to make a stand against the bowling of Osborne and Bottrill, the former taking seven wickets for 19 runs. Stephenson 17, Shepperd 11). Western Park replied with 71 runs (Oakley 34)’ New Plymouth, in their second innings, made 86 runs (H. Oliver 19, Osborne 18, Kinsella 11 not out). Western Park lost five wickets for 42 runs (Harrison 19 not out) at call of time. Bowling for New Plymouth, Kinsella took eight wickets for 40 runs, Hughes three for 12, H. Oliver one for 22, Osborne one for 14. Western Park bowling analysis was: Bullot five for 84, Hoskin four for 12, Harrison two for 10, E. Hofflinann four for 51, Butcher two for 14, Rowe two for 12. BELL BLOCK v. HARBOR WORKS. Playing at Bell Block, the Harbor Works team defeated Bell Block by 80 runs to 43. Harbor Works were all out for 21 in tie first innings. Bell Block replying with 18. In their second innings Bell Block made 62, and tn a second effort Harbor Works knocked up 22. Bowling for Harbor Works Carey took six wickets for 3, and Cameron four for 15 in the first innings, and in the second Cameron took three for 44 and Carey four for 16. For Bell Block Bishop took four wickets for 9 and O'Donnell six for 10. OTHER MATOHEES. Urenui gained a twe-point win over Old Boys at Urenui. At Waitara Hifch School m. were defeated by Waitara, who had a three-point win. SOUTH AUSTRALIA V. VICTORIA. •By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Adelaide, Feb. 25. South Australia in the first innings made 160 (Rundell 45, Townsend 29). Victoria have lost no wickets for 141 (Mayne 82, O’Keefe 51). Received Feb. 26, 5.5 p.m. .Adelaide, Feb. 26. The cricket was resumed on a perfect wicket. Victoria have lost four wickets far 523 (Mayne 85, O'Keefe 180. Hartkopf 32, Hansford not out 117, Cody not out 78). It was apparent the batsmen were after averages.
