LAWN TENNIS.

IEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. The final for the men's championship was decided on Saturday afternoon under beautiful weather conditions, when J. C. Nicholson had no difficulty in defeating C. B. Webster 6—l, 6—3, 6—3, thus regaining the laurels which Webster took from him last year. On the day Nicholson was easily the better player, showing considerable skill in placing, also in anticipating his opponent’s moves. Webster, on the other hand, was erratic, and gave away several double fault®, whilst he did not seem able to judge his returns any tod well. In the first set Nicholson won the first four games, two of them to love. In the fifth game Webster looked like winning off his own service and led 40 love, but Nicholson finally won. The early stages of the next set were more even, being equal at 2 all. Nicholson won the next two, but Webster won the next, making the score 4—3 in favor of Nicholson, who, however, won the next two, one a love game, and the set. Webster started well in the third, and, as it proved, the decisive set, winning the first game after several deuces had been called. The next he won easily, and had a lead of two love. Nicholson won the next two, and then Webster won the fifth, making the score -3—2 in his favor. He won the first two points in the next game, but Nicholson, after a couple of deuces, won it and equalised the scores. He also won the last three games comfortably and the match.

The championship has been contested on 14 occasions since 1905, and J. C. Nicholson won it twelve times in succession until 1921, when C. B. Webster had his name placed on the board. J. C. Nicholson has thus put up the great performance of winning thirteen times out of fourteen. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. The final of the ladies’ championship, between Miss Brewster and Miss D. Simpson was to have been decided also, but was postponed until next Saturday. THE SCHOOLS’ CHAMPIONSHIP. EARLY ROUNDS DECIDED.
