CASE AGAINST BOROUGH COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Blenheim, Feb. 24. A writ has been issued by Mr. W. T. Mansfield, late town clerk and borough engineer, against the Blenheim Borough Council, claiming £lOOO for alleged wrongful dismissal. The case is set down for hearing in the Supreme Court next month. GIFT OF PICTURES. Wellington, Feb. 24. A large and representative collection of the paintings of the well-known artist P. van der Velden (deceased) has been presented to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts by an anonymous donor. The collection comprises several large canvases in oil, many studies and rough sketches in the same medium, and a number of exquisite studies in black and white. A condition attaching to the gift is that the pictures shall be hung together in one room and shall be named the “Van der Velden Collection.” Owing to the overcrowded state of the gallery at present it will be difficult to comply with this condition, and it may be necessary to loan to other galleries some pictures now on the walls in order to provide the necessary
