RIFLE SHOOTING.

THE PAPAWAI MEETING. YESTERDAY’S RESULTS. LEADERS IN AGGREGATE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Greytown, Last Night. The rifle shooting meeting progressed another stage to-day, the Auckland match being completed in the morning, and the Wellington match, ten shots at 600 yards, being put through in the afternoon. Tae weather was a mixture of dull and drizzling all the morning, with occasional showers of a penetrating density, but the wind was generally steady, with little variation, the direction at the start being straight across from the left, but drawing gradually to the left rear. After lunch the wind strengthened, and at times was very unsteady. For the first time since the meeting began the sun came out, and was hot and strong for two or three brief intervals. His sudden appearances through the cloud banks, however, were very unwelcome to the marksmen, whose scores in some cases showed an immediate effect, the targets being brightly illuminated after studies in shadows. Despite these hazards, which involved some of the best men in misfortune, the shooting was very hot all round. Two possibles were put in at 500 yards by Swaysland and Barnett, who each added good totals at 600 yards, and got well up in the prize list at 600. Koppert put on 49 in the Auckland match, and Bryan and Henderson did similarly in the Wellington match. With three events completed out of eight counting for the aggregate interest begins to centre in the question of who is leading. Five ranges have been fired, for which the possible points totalled 250, and the present leaders are: Bryan (Auckland) 236 Guy (Kaponga) 236 1 Hunt (Wellington Suburbs) ... 236 ■ West (Blenheim) 233 ■ Eyles (Dannevirke) 233 Pimm (Christchurch) 231 Mayhew (Linton) 228 Guinev (Petone) 228 P.
