POST OFFICE PROFITS.

NEED TO REDUCE CHARGES. About 500 people attended the official opening by the Hon. J. G. Coates of the new post office at Te Kopuru. Mr. Coates said the Post Office operations of the Dominion would show £lOO,000 as profit this year. He wished it were £200,000, for they must get into a position to enable the cost of the services ro be reduced. He said the public services must pay their way, but the services should be made as reasonable as possible, so that their cost would correspond to the standard of income of those using them. Speaking of Government retrenchment, he said that when these proposals were completed the cost of government would be down to the 1913-14 figures. He wm sure they would pull through the hard times all right. Team work was required to do this. All must do their part.
