MARYS OF THE EMPIRE.
PRESENT FOR THE PRINCESS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrigtt. Received Feb. 24, 8.5 pan. London, Feb. 23. The Marys of the Empire have given the Princess a beautiful rope of pearls. About £BOOO was subscribed, and the Princess first asked that all the money be given to a philanthropic object, and then expressed a wish that only a few hundred pounds be spent on jewellery for herself and the rest be devoted to the Girl Guide movement, particularly a training camp for the leaders and a hospital camp for girls requiring a country rest. The Princess thus hopes to benefit a movement extending to all the Dominions and touching the entire girlhood of the Empire. Owing to the general wishes of the subscribers the organisers spent considerably more upon the personal present than the Princess suggested. The rope fails to the waist, and is made of beautiful pearls of the same size and color as the shorter necklet familiar in the Princess’ photograph. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
