CHEMISTS’ AFFAIRS.

CONCLUSION OF CONFERENCE. QUESTION OF NIGHT CHARGES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Pharmaceutical Society’s conference has concluded. A paper on the commercial side of pharmacy was read by Mr. Gieson (Te Kuiti). Arising out of the decision of the conference to further the formation of a proprietary articles traders' association the chairman announced that as a result .of legal opinion it was clear the organisation would have to be separated from the Chemists’ Defence Association, Ltd., and be controlled as a distinct entity. The conference ordered to be sent for the consideration of the divisions a resolution which recommended that where no night pharmacy exists and chemists are called upon to dispense after closing hours on ordinary days an extra charge of Is should be made up to 9 p.m., and 2s 6d thereafter. A remit from Canterbury, expressing appreciation of the Pharmacy Board’s actions in regard to the Poisons Bill and calling for sustained endeavor to get the Bill carried, was unanimously endorsed. It was decided to recommend for the consideration of divisions a proposal that matriculation be substituted for the present A section in the pharmaceutical examinations. In discussion it was pointed out that this alteration probably would facilitate the provision of special tuition at university colleges if the Pharmacy Board reported in favor of the scheme suggested by Auckland in connection with the revision of pharmaceutical education.

The next conference was fixed for Dunedin in March.
