THE MELBOURNE MURDER.
EVIDENCE OF ACCUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, Feb. 23. Ross, giving evidence in his own defence, denied the evidence of Matthews and Harding. He declared that he left the cafe early on the night of the crime and slept at home. He said the detectives were manufacturing evidence in order to fit him, because he beat them in a previous case. He alleged that the hairs found in the blanket supposed to be those of the murdered girl were those of relatives of the family who had slept with them. His mother and brother gave supporting evidence.
