LABOR CRISIS.

DEADLOCK IN BRITAIN. TROUBLE WITH UNION. MORE UNEMPLOYED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn..—Cojlyrlgtt. Received Feb. 23, 8.15 p.m. London, Feb. 22. Serious trouble in'the shipbuilding and engineering trade is likely to result in hundreds of thousands more being unemployed by the middle of March. The Engineering Employers’ Federation announce that owing to failure to come to an agreement with the Amalgamated Engineering Union they have decided to decline to employ any member of a trade union which does not permit members to work overtime on night shifts whenever possible. Sir Allan Smith has already pointed out that the issue is whether the employers or the shop stewards shall say how the business shall be carried on. Shipbuilding operatives are now balloting strongly against acceptance of a /wage reduction totalling 26a 6d weekly. * —Aus.-N-Z. Cable Assn.
