ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
MAN COMMITS SUICIDE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. A man named Thomas McVicker, aged 58, a threshing employee, committed suicide at Lumsden early thia morning by cutting his throat. He had complained of ill health. He had no relations in New Zealand. PAINTERS’ CONFERENCE. Wanganui, Last Night. The painters’ conference to-night decided that the federation should register under the Unclassified Societies Act. Considerable discussion took place regarding the standard of workmanship. It was stated that unions were powerless to keep incompetents out, so long a« they were of good character and paid the membership fee. It was resolved that unions should be given power to i e fuse membership to any but qualified tradesmen.
