A PATENT CARBURETTOR. By Telegraph.—Preas Assn.—Copyrlgfit. Sydney, Feb. 20. The Whiteman Superb Carburettor Company has been successfully floated and registered in Sydney with a capital of £50,000. This is a Christchurch invention. The new company takes over the whole of the interests of the original New Zealand parent company.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. NJB. WALES ORCHESTRA. Sydney, Feb. 20. The State Orchestra has returned. The manager stated that the tour was not a financial success, as business was not consistent. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. COPPER WORKS IDLE. Adelaide, Feb. 21. The copper smelting works at Wallaroo have ceased work and the blast and surface converter plants are stopped. Many men are rendered idle. PROHIBITION COMMISSIONER. Sydney, Feb. 21. Mr. Dooley has announced that the Government is sending a commissioner to America to investigate the prohibition question. FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND. Sydney, Feb. 21. A Cairns messages state that there is no abatement in the floods. Traffic to some centres is entirely disorganised. The rainfall has been phenomenal. WORLD-WIDE WHEAT COMBINE. Sydney, Feb. 31. Mr. A. K. Trethowan, Legislative Councillor, and president of the Farm.ers’ Federal Organisation, is sailing for ! London, Canada and the United States on March I, to consult representatives of the wheat organisations abroad with a view to establishing a gigantic worldwide wheat pool for the purposes of marketing and controlling the crops of the nations mentioned. It is denied that the proposal is a corner in the sense usually understood in commercial circles. THREATENED RAILWAY STRIKE. Sydney, Feb. 21. The Australian Railway Union threatens to start a regulation strike if the Government refuses to ignore Mr. Justice Edmund’s report. This means that the travelling public will be subjected to irritating disabilities through adherence to impracticable regulations. BUTTER POOL WANTED. Brisbane,' Feb. 12. A deputation of dairy farmers asked Mr. Theodore to form a butter pool as B£d per lb, the price since decontrol, was insufficient to support the industry. Mr. Theodore promised the legislation desired if the farmers themselves showed that they wanted it.
