EMPIRE’S FUTURE.
VIRILITY OF DOMINIONS. PROBLEMS CAN BE SOLVED. UNION WITH FRANCE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Feb. 19. The Daily Mail says that Lord Northcliffe, as the result of his 45,000 miles’ tour, returns full of hope for the 'Empire’s strength. The Dominions abound with virility and energy. Regarding his previous warnings as to the position of affairs in India, Egypt and Palestine, he says that the dangers can be overcome. If the statesmen of England show decision and firmness the Empire’s future is assured. Paris, Feb. 19. Lord Northcliffe, interviewed at Marseilles, declared that Western civilisation could only be saved by a Europe grouped round the Western Powers, whose only rallying point was a close Anglo-French union. He rejoiced in the success of the Washington Conference, but the reconstruction of Europe must be undertaken by Europe herself. Efficient support from the United States would only be forthcoming when Europe had composed her own differences. While England and France were united there could be no danger for Europe.
