AN AMERICAN BISHOP.

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. Sydney, Feb. 7. Bishop C. E. Locke, of the American Methodist Church, who is accompanied by his wife, arrived in Sydney from Manila yesterday on his way to New Zealand,’ to convey greetings from the American Church, at the celebrations of the centenary of Methodism in the Dominion. For over 30 years Bishop Locke was a pastor in New York, Los Angeles, Buffalo, and other cities, and in 1920 was appointed Bishop-in-charge of the Philippines. He will be back in Los Angeles next September, to dedicate what he described as America’s greatest church, seating 3200, in his old parish. Bishop Locke, in an interview, made a strong appeal for international unity, pointing out that the ideals and aspirations of the British Empire and of the United States were identical, and that the two nations could not be sundered.
