THE FLOWER SHOW.
ENTRIES CLOSE TO-pAY. Among the many activities that help to make up the full life of every Urge district is that which is undertaken by horticultural societies. The main object of these societies is to encourage the love of beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees whereby the environment of our homes and open spaces can be made not only more attractive, but able to exercise a beneficial influence on humanity. The actual meaning of the word horticulture is “garden tilling, but it includes in its most extensive signification the cultivation of esculent veget bles, fruits and ornamental plants and flowers. There is both an art and a science in this cultivation, and ®y stimulating the public to attain as near perfection as possible, these societies do great service to the community. The New Plymouth Society has done much good work, and at the show is to be held at the Coronation Hall on Saturday it is hoped there will be at least one thousand entries, while there is ample space available for many more. It is one of those shows which should be supported largely, and thk can be done by a common effort on the part of all who are in a position to contribute entries —the more the better, as the points prize will be awarded for the highest aggregate points. As the season has been favorable, the exhibition should be one of the beat on record for this district. Entries close to-day, and should be larger than ever before. The society is certainly deserving of a helping hand to enlarge its operations and ensure a steady growth from yehi tq JKMix
