ELTHAM.
QUEEN CARNIVAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) February 17. A fete in connection with the combined bands’ queen carnival was held at: Taumata Park yesterday afternoon and attracted a fair attendance. A procession of children’s decorated vehicles, headed ’by the braes band, took place from the town hall to the park, where later a fancy dress football match was played. Two prizes were offered for the best decorated vehicles, and Mr. and Mrs. Connell, who were the judges, had no trouble in awarding the first prize to little Gladys Beesley (go-cart) and Master Clifford Nodder (tricycle). Afternoon teas and various games were an attraction, and the bands will doubtless benefit to a considerable extent from the takings. ’ HORTICULTURAL SHOW. The omission to hold this event last year may account for much of the strenuous effort that is being made to secure the success of the show that is to ‘be held on Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4. Enthusiasm runs high in Eltham and in the surrounding districts, and the number of entries being received, even at this early date, bids fair to tax the capacity of the town hall. Entries will be received by any member of the committee, and ‘by the district organisers: Kaponga, Mr. Betts; Lowgarth, Mr. H. Thrush; Mangatoki, Mr. Gifford; Mata, Mrs. Treweek; Matapu, Mr. M-’,. Dowie; Ngaere, Mr. A. Brown; Pal, ngahu, Mr. F. Mehrtens; Riverlea. Mr. A. E. Mills; Rotokari, Mr. Sanderson; Rawhitiroa and Mangamingi, Messrs. F. Belcher and F. Silver; Te Roti, Mr. A. H. Best. The various classes number 317, divided into eleven sections, covering a wide range of exhibits. The number of members grows steadily, and Eltham should fig ure as the largest society of its kind in Ta maki. The annual subscription of five shillings gives members all the privileges attaching to membership of a horticultural society and admits husband and wife to the annual show. The committee and the secretary (Mr. S. Holder) are greatly pleased with the support they are "receiving, and they anticipate a remarkable success. PERSONAL Mr. H. H. Baker, Mata, who has been in a private hospital for some days, is now making a l ' steady recovery. Mr. F. B. Wylds. who underwent an operation at a'private hospital on Wednesday, is exported to he able to return home in a day or two.
