STRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication in the Taranaki Daily News should be left at the office of our local representatives, Wilson Bros., Broadway, Stratford. Orders for papers may also be left with theta. REPATRIATION COMMITTEE. Feb. 17. An interesting summary of the work of the Stratford Repatriation Committee is contained in a report dealing with its operations and proceedings from the inception, March 8, 1919, until December 31, 1921. The number of cases dealt with was 484, and the number of actual files on the register at present is 290. The busiest period was between 1919 and 1920, when an average of 10 cases per meeting was dealt with. Many cases came up for reconsideration at different periods. Applications were recommended as fololw: Tuition and educational training, 7; subsidised workers and trainees (trades and commerce), 20; special applications for employment on account of seriously disabled men, 7; examinations on behalf of the Lands Department in connection with applications for the acquisition of dwellings and farm lands, stock, etc., 45; acquisition of businesses, stock and implements (business loans), 67; furniture applications, 95; sundry, 49. —Total, 290. The aggregate amount of business loans and loans to acquire stock recommended t»y the committee was £12,967, and of furniture loans, £5680. Eighty per cent, of the business loans and 90 per cent, of the furniture loans were granted. Owing to the numerous applications received from the Whangamomona district a sub-commit-tee was established at Whangamomona. The report concluded by recording the courtesy which was extended at ajl times by the head office, and the satisfaction of having such a high percentage of the recommendations carried out. PLUNKET SOCIETY.

Arrangements are well in hand for the Plunket Society’s garden fete and baby show to be held on Tuesday next in Mr. H. E. Abraham’s grounds, Page Street. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., will open the function at 2.30 p.m., and will present the prizes at 4 pan. Entries for the baby competition are now being received at the Plunket rooms, Juliet Street, and will also be taken by the secretary on the grounds up to 3 pjn. The competition is open to all children under two year sof age, who will be divided into six divisions according to age. Plunket Nurse Dix, of Hawera, has consented to act as judge. Prizes to the value of 10s will be awarded in each class, and for the best baby in the show Mr. McAllister is giving a photo trophy to the value of one guinea. Moreover, every baby entered in the show is entitled to one free photograph at Mr. McAllister’s studio, these photos to be taken between February 18 and 25. It is hoped that all those who are interested in or have been helped by the society’s work will come along on Tuesday and help to make the fete a great success. Friends giving donations of produce, cakes or sweets may leave their goods at the Plunket rooms, Juliet Street, on Monday afternoon.

The P.A.C., Stratford, notify that they are selling to-day, commencing at 1.3. p.m., 600 cases of fruit, comprising apples, pears, peaches, plums, grapes, tomatoes (very seasonable) and cucumbers. T. I. Lamason advertises for sale at the mart, Broadway, to-day, 500 cases of choice fruits, besides a quantity of ueual sundries.
