LAWN TENNIS.
> TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. OPENING TO-DAY. The Taranaki lawn tennis championship and handicap tournament opens this morning it the New Plymouth Club's courts in Vivian Street.. Play begins at 9 a.m., and the following players are requested to be in attendance ready to start playing at 9.15 o'clock: Mrs. L. Smith, Mrs. Weston, Miss D. Simpson, Mrs. W. Smith, Miss Rundle, Miss Brewster, Miss S. Thomson, Miss Valentine, Miss Rutherford, Mrs. Brewster, Mrs. Grant. Miss Ballantyne; Messrs. Wallace, Wynyard, Craigie, Pownall, Head, Shearer, Griffiths, Kururangi, Wybourne, Curtis, Merron, Grant, Hine, Kuch, Edmondson, Reader, Nicholson, Berg, Dickie, Webster. Players must be ready to play when required. There will be no lunch interval. Visitors and players should note that after to-day the only entrance will be from Vivian Street. Morning and afternoon tea will be obtainable on the grounds, the catering being in the capable hands of Mrs. White, of the Devon Tea Rooms. A match was played at Manaia on Saturday between Kaponga A and Manala B teams, and resulted in a win for Manaia by 14 sets to 10. A very pleasant afternoon was spent.
