LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated February 11, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: MEAT. Prices home-killed have advanced through disorganisation of market on account of foot-and-mouth disease, and some classes imported have hardened in sympathy. Fair trade for New Zealand mutton and lamb, but beef tn very poor demand. New Zealand Mutton.-—Lightweight, Feb. 11, ; 7Y4d to 7%d; Feb. 4, 7%d; Jan. 28, up to Bd. 'Heavyweight: February 11, 7d; February 4, 6%d to 7%d; January 28, 6>4d to 6%d. Ewes (for lightweight) : February 11, 6*4d; February 4, 6%d; January 28, 6%d. New Zealand Lamb.—Lightweight, -February 11, 10%d to 10%d; February 4, 10%d to loUd; January 28, 10y 2 d. Heavyweight: February 11, lOd; February 4, lOd; January 28, lOd. Second class quality, lightweight, February 11, lOd. New season’s New Zealand lamb offered at ll%d ex store, and Is per 'o on the market, but not in much demand at the price. Market firm with good demand, especially for New Zealand, which is at present selling in some cases up to 142 s per cwt. (Is 3%d I per lb). Danish continues very scarce and quotations nominal. Official quotations are: New Zealand. —Salted, February 11, 138 s ‘o 140 s per cwt. (Is 2%d to Is 3d per lb) ; February 4,134 s to 138 s per cwt. (Is 2%d to Is 2%d per lb) ; January 28, 140 s to 145 s per cwt. (Is 3d to Is 3%d per lb). Unsalted (shipped in small quantities) : February 11, 158 s to 165 s per cwt (Is 5d to Is 5%d per lb). CHEESE. Demand continues good and market firm at same quotations as reported last week, namely : New Zealand: February 11 and 4, colored, 98s to 100 s per cwt. (10y 2 d to 10%d per lb) ; white, 92s to 94s per cwt. (9%d to lOd per lb). January 28, colored, 94s to 96s per cwt. (lOd to 10Vid per lb) ; white, 90s to 92s per cwt. (9%d to lOd per lb). WOOL. At Liverpool B.A.W.R.A. sales this week 27,000 bales were offered, of which 7000 were New Zealand, balance Australian. Trade fully represented, especially home trade, and competition animated; practically all cleared. Prices for superior merino and crossbreds ruled fully equal to late London values. Medium sorts little easier. Bradford market quieter. Crossbred tops easier. OTHER ADVICES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date February 10 : Butter. —New Zealand salted, £6 18s to £7 per cwt. Market firm. Good demand. Cheese.— £4 10s to £5 per cwt. Good demand. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has | received the following advice from Its London office, under date February 10 : Butter. —Market firm. Finest, 138 s to 142 s per cWt. ; unsalted, 158 s to 165 s per cwt. Cheese. —Good inquiry, especially for colored. White, 90s to 94s per cwt.; colored, 96s to 100 s per cwt. Frozen Meat. —There 13 a fair demand for wether mutton. The immediate prospects for lamb appear to be good. Owing to very heavy supplies from South America, the beef market is dull, and prices are unchanged. Current quotations: Wethers, light, 7d to BV4d per lb; wethers, heavy, 6d to 7d per lb; ewes, 5%d to 6y 2 d per lb; lamb, new season’s, 12d to 12%d per lb; lamb, old season’s, lOd to lid per lb; lamb, seconds, 9Hd to lOd per lb; ox hinds, 4d to 5d per lb; ox fores, 3d to 3%d per lb; cow hinds, 3*4d to 4d per lb; cow fores, 2d to 2%d per lb. FROZEN MEAT. S&nTHFIELD MARKET PRICES. Messrs. M. A. Elliott, Ltd. (Palmerston North) have received cabled advice from Messrs. Gilbert Anderson and Co., Ltd., of the following Smithfield market prices for the week ended Saturday last: Canterbury Lambs.—Under 361 b, 10%d; 361 b to 421 b, 10%d; 421 b to 501 b, lOd. Best North Island Lambs.—Under 361 b, inyid. Ordinary North Island Lambs.—Under 361 b, IOVJd. Best North Island Wethers.—4Blb to 561 b, 7 5-8 d; 561 b to 6,41 b, 7%d; 641 b to 721 b, 7d. Ordinary North Island Weihers. —561 b to 641 b, 7d. North Island Ewes. —481 b to 641 b, 6%d. New Zealand Prime Beef.—Equal fores and hinds, 4d. The above prices are on a delivered basis. There Is very little demand for beef. Cow: Fore quarters, 2y 2 d: hind quarters, 3%d. The prices represent an advance of V4d on the previous week. INGLEWOOD SALE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a comparatively small attendance at Newton King. Ltd.’s mart sale on Saturday, though prices were not appreciably affected.
