ELTHAM.

I „ ELTHAM DAIRY CO. / -e (From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 14. The secretary of the Eltham Dairy Co. has supplied the following particulars of the milk supply for January: Lbs of milk supplied, 7,972,086; lbs of cream, 5214; lbs of butterfat, 307,568.89. This shows an increase over last year’s supply for the same period of 59,5341bs of butter-fat. The increase in butter-fat for seven months ended January 31, as compared with the same period last year, amounts to 344,286 lbs. The supply of milk keeps up wonderfully, the season having been a perfect one for growth. The Home markets having shown an upward tendency, the local company will this month doubtless be paying out a little in advance of last month’s payout. THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Eltham School Committee was held last evening. Present: Rev. J. G. Castle (chair), Messrs. J. H. Sheat (secretary), H. Bunn, W. Hodgson, C. R. K. Cumming, O. Manley and E. Corbett. A letter from the secretary of the Queen Carnival, requesting that the children be given a half-holiday pn Thursday next, w’as left with the chairman, secretary and headmaster, the committee expressing the opinion that a full halfholiday was not necessary. The secretary stated that he had received a communication from the Railway Department to the effect that a special train would be available on March 2 for the school picnic. The financial strain seems to be no detriment, several schools having made enquiries and expressing a desire for a seaside picnic. It was decided to hold the picpic on the above date, all preliminary arrangements being left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. If considered necessary another meeting will be held this week. The neighboring schools will be invited. The matter of fruit and lollies was left with the chairman and secretary, and arrangements would be made for a supply of hot water at Ngamotu Beach. Mr. C. R. K. Cumming stated that the caretaker of the swimming baths had resigned, and in order to keep the baths open during the hot weather he had arranged for two young men to take charge. Mr. Hodgson stated that on a recent visit to the baths he had found things very satisfactory. The chairman expressed the same sentiment, and moved that Mr. Cumming’s action be confirmed.

The headmaster reported: “The school was reopened on February 1 with all teachers present and a good attendance of pupils. The roll number at present is 364, and the average attendance for last week 336.” The following were appointed a visiting committee for the month of March: Messrs O. Manley, E. Corbett and Rev. J. G. Castle. GENERAL. / ' . The practice of motor cyclists going through the town at an excessive speed and minus silencers still continues. Townsfolk generally would relish a stop being put to this nuisance. In an endeavor to do so the Borough Council decided at its last meeting to take action against offenders. No conviction, however, has as yet been recorded. The many friends of Mr. W. Lambie, Pihama, will be pleased to learn that he is now making a rapid recovery from his injuries received in a motor accident a week ago.
