STRIKE IN AFRICA.
GOLD MINES RE-OPEN. FEW MEN RESUMING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 14, 1.10 a.m. Capetown, Feb. 13. Work has re-started on the goldfields, but only a small number has resumed. A thousand natives are working underground at Village-deep and forty stamps are going at Durban-deep, but the position is regarded as promising. A few of the strikers have resumed. The police arrested pickets at Village-deep, but otherwise everything is quiet. So far - there has been no resumption on the East Rand.—Reuter. WORKERS STAND FIRM. Capetown, Feb. 12. A monster meeting of strikers in the Johannesburg town hall resolved to stand firm until they secured victory. The chief speaker declared that was the answer to General Smuts’ challenge. The chairman announced that any strikers returning to work to-morrow would be dealt with by the commandos.
