AN UNWHOLESOME MEAL.

, FAMILY BECOMES ILL. Gisborne, Feb. 8. Three admissions to the Gisborne hospital were made as the result of a meal of tainted preserved sheep’s tongues. The unfortunate diners were Mr. V. S. Bolton, of Makaraka, and his two children, aged respectively three and two years. The tongues were partaken of at tea time and at about nine o’clock all three became ill. They were immediately removed to the hospital. Their progress was reported to-day as satisfactory. Another victim was a Maori employed by Mr. Bolton, who also partook of the tongues and who left the house shortly after. When the effect of the meal upon the members of the family was observed a search was made for the native, who, however, could not be found immediately. At about two o’clock the following morning he was found out in a field where he had wandered in his agony and had fallen asleep exhausted. He received suitable treatment and is also reported to be progressing favorably.
