SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. Playing at Eltham on Saturday the Eltham seniors gained a three-point win against Kaponga. Kaponga made 54 and 95 (Thomas 17 and 28, Mair 27). Eltham compiled 128 for four wickets and 23 for four wickets (Cole not out 44, Marsh not out 30, Bain 28, Little 29). Manaia A defeated Excelsior at Manala by 157 to 127. For Manaia Maunsel made 53 and Stewart 45. Batting for Excelsior Davis compiled 40 and Jarvis 37. Midlands met Okaiawa at Hawera, and secured a win on the first innings. Midlands made 118 in their first innings (Beechey 39, Hoar 17, Fairweather 16). Okaiawa made 98 (Smith 28, J. Barclay 19, Nicholls 16). Bowling for Midlands, Slinger took four wickets for 12 runs, and Penney four for 43. For Okaiawa, Beechey, five for 43, was the most successful bowler. Playing on Midlands declared with two wickets down for 79, while Okaiawa made 90 for the loss of five wickets. Waverley met Patea in the fourth match the season for the Cooper Cup, and secured the verdict by 154 to 93. Batting for Waverley Bradmore made 54, McMurray 42 and Strachan and Rook each 23. For Patea Harding scored 28, Mercer 16 and Harrison 13.. Bowling for Waverley. Turner four for 22, and Strachan four for 23, were most successful, while for Patea Cunningham took three wickets for 46 and Mercer two for 22.
