HOOKWORM DISEASE.

NEW TREATMENT DISCOVERED. GIVES GREAT PROMISE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —copyright. Suva, Feb. 10. An important discovery has been made regarding the treatment of ankylostomiasis in Suva Hospital by the use of carbon tetrachloride. Dr. Hall, senior zoologist of the United States Government, conducted tests over some months and found the new medicine a perfect vermifuge for hookworms and other intestinal parasites in dogs. The Suva tests removed 98 per cent, of the worms in human beings with one dose, almost without symptoms. The treatment is still in the experimental stage, but gives great promise. It is the first known practical use of the new remedy. The results are of great economic importance as the cost is only one-eighth of that of the old method.
