EXPORT OF MEAT.
RESTRICTION ON ARMOURS. AN AGREEMENT REPORTED. (By Wire. —Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. When the. Meat Export Control Bill was passing through the House the Prime Minister was asked if the clause providing for the safeguarding of existing contracts would mean the release of meat owned by Armour and Co., of Australasia, and held at present in New Zealand stores. The Prime Minister replied, thjit in hie opinion the passing of the Bill would settle the difference between the Government and the The meat is detained, it will be remembered, by the refusal of the Government to issue a meat export license to Armour and Co. except on certain conditions. It is now stated unofficially s but on good authority, that the dispute has been settled on the terms desired by the New Zealand Government, and that in consequence the restriction on the shipment of Armour and Co.’s meat is being lifted. The company probably will be allowed to ship this meat to any country, including Great Britain. An arrangement of this kind would indicate that the American firm has agreed to cease its operations in New Zealand.
