STEAMER HELD UP.

WATERSIDERS’ DEMANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Men unloading a cargo of phosphates which the steamer Glaucus brought from Noumea ceased work to-day. They demanded an increase of threepence per hour on the rates of pay. The local disputes committee considered the matter and unanimously decided that the men should be paid for four hours at 2/6 and for four hours at 2/9 each day, to (be netffospejetive. The men, however, refused to accept these terms and did not resume work this afternoon. The decision of the committee being unanimous the dispute cannot be referred to the national disputes committee at Wellington.
