BUTTER SUBSIDY.
STATEMENT FOR DAIRY COMPANY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. - Hamilton, Feb. 10. Referring to the statement made in the House by the Prime Minister regarding the payment of the butter subsidy Mr. T. L. Hames, secretary of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, said the statement of the Department of Imperial Supplies was au extraordinary one. Seeing that the audit of the company’s butter sales was at present incomplete to say that the company may have been over-paid in his opinion was ridiculous. The company's claims for subsidy amounted to a considerable sum. Against thia progress payments had been made, hut a large part of the claim was still outstanding and would be paid only on completion of the audit. In the interests of all concerned it would be very desirable to finish this work as soon as possible, but ho felt the department was not giving the assistance that might be expected. Mr. Hames added that it was his intention to proceed to ’ Wellington to take up the matter with the Coatroll** direct. -
