MAGISTRATE’S COURT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 9. , At the last sitting of the Magistrate’s Court Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., presided. Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following cases: E. Beckbessinger v. Jacob Tane, judgment for £4 14s lOd, costs 37/6; W. J. R. Avery v. E. Carrington, £4 12s 9d, costs 27s 6d; M. Campbell v. Poki Martin, judgment for costs 20s 6d; E. Beckbessinger v. Poki Martin, £2 19s lid, costs £2 9s 6d; M. Campbell v. Pono Thompson, £6 10s 6d, costs 35s 6d; M. Campbell v. Kabo Heremia, judgment £5 19s, costs 35s 6d; J. Littluand Co. v. Win. Scholes, £3 Ils Bd, costs Ills 6d; Gordon Fraser v. Wetere, 16s 3d, costs 13s; Gordon Fraser v. Too Late, 21s 7d, costs 13s. Judgment Summons. —Hayhurst Motor Co. v. Turu, judgment £2 4s. The debtor was ordered to pay the amount withiu seven days or go to prison for three days. Land agents’ .licenses were granted to Geo. Bird, G. F. Walker, Lund and Sampson and Gaustad and Marlow.

A Maori debtor in Court, who said h? had not earned any money for the last six months, said he could pot get work. He said: “The farmer he say no money for the butter-fat and can’t pay the Maori for work.” The magistrate remarked that he supposed there was something in what the debtor said.

GENERAL ITEMS. The Uruti settlers have decided to erect a butter and cheese factory to replace the building destroyed by fire. The Waitara School Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday. The hi admaster’s report stated that the attendance of pupils was good. He also mentioned the pupils’ successes in the proficiency and national scholarship examinations. The chairman reported on the baths, and pointed out the good work being carried out by the caretaker (Mr. E. Knight). He suggested that his services be retained until the end of the season, and the suggestion was agreed to. The use of the baths for a carnival in aid of the Soldiers and Civilians’ Club was granted, on condition that the School Committee receive 25 per cent, of the takings, and the arrangements did not interfere with the school curriculum in any way. Authority was given to purchase a lawn mower to keep the grass cut in the girls’ playground.

Constable La Pouple resumed duty od Tuesday after a month’s holiday, a.'.d Constable Hadler, who was relieving, returned to Fitzroy.

The Mayor (Mr. R. Morgan) has gone to a private hospital in New Plymouth.
