——s ■*VAs?* B ’T (From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 9. Great enthusiasm is still being evinced in the Queen Carnival in aid of the Highland Pipe and Brass Bands. The money continues to come in freely, and it is expected that the amount required will be obtained. The various committees are tireless in their endeavors to place their individual queens at the top of the poll, and with this in view several entertaining functions have been arranged. To-day a picnic was held at Waingongoro beacb, and a collection taken in aid of the Mountain Queen. To-morrow evening a splendid concert in aid of the Juvenile Queen has been arranged, the whole of the programme being given by tiny tots. The Town Hail will doubtless be filled to its utmost to see these clever little children perform. The present position of the candidates is as follows: Mountain Queen 1, Juvenile Queen 2, Loyal Queen 3, Motor Queen 4. Owing to a cracked cylinder the N.Z. Aero Transport Company’s Avro plane has been unable to carry out flights as intended. The pilot, Mr. Mercer, has obtained a spare engine, and as soon as repairs arc effected expects to fly to Auck* had.
