INGLEWOOD.
OLD RESIDENT’S DEATH. (From Our Own Correspondent.)’ February 8. Another of the band of Lincolnshire men who came to Taranaki in 1876 passed away suddenly at Inglewood this morning in the person of Mr. George Bancroft. The deceased was an old resident of Inglewood, well known, respected and liked. In many ways he was typical of the men who came here from the same country. For many years he was in the employ of Messrs. H. Brown and Co. at Inglewood, with whose casual delivery cart and turnout he was one of he most familiar figures here. Invariably cheerful, though of late years a martyr to rheumatism, he was looked upon as one of Inglewood’s institutions, and his death will be sincerely regretted. His many friends, while sympathising with Mrs. Bancroft m her bereavement, will be glad to think that his end came without long suffering. He was harvesting with an old friend on Monday. On Tuesday, as late as 6.30 p.m. he was chatting with a near neighbor, apparently in quite his usual health and spirits, and this Wednesday morning at about 7 o’clock he was found dead in his garden. As the doctor who had been attending him was able to certify to the cause of death no inquest was held. The funeral will be held here on Thursday at 3 p.m.
