ALLEGED ILLEGAL USE OF FUNDS. COUNCILLORS AS DEFENDANTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. On the grounds that moneys raised by loan by the Waimairi County Council for special purposes were illegally used for other purposes the has issued a writ of summons against the members of the council who authorised the expenditure. The plaintiff claims that the defendants borrowed £lO,OOO by way of a special loan for the purposes of channelling and asphalting in the Papanui Riding of the county and illegally expended £5lOO of the amount by paying it into the Commercial Bank in reduction of amounts owing to the bank by the council on its overdrawn account. The plaintiff prays for judgment and for a penalty of £lOO against each of the defendants for the costs of the action and for such further or other relief which to the Court may seem meet.
