BUTTER IN ENGLAND.
COMPETITION OF DANISH.
OVERCOMING DISADVANTAGES
(By Wire.—Our Parliamentary Reporter.! Wellington, Last Night. Referring to a recent cablegram which stated that New Zealand butter suffered in competition with Danish on the London market on account of its less regular arrival, Mr. W. H. Field (Otaki) asked the Prime Minister in the House to-day if he could see his way to have the Govern;ment co-operate with the dairy authorities to secure regularity of supply. Mr. Massey said no one could gainsay the importance of the dairy industry to New Zealand, and if we were to do our best with it it would be necessary to see that butter was properly marketed. He was glad to say that a move in that direction was on foot at present, and approval had been expressed of what the High Commissioner was doing in conjunction with other High Commissioners to prove that our butter was little if at all inferior Jo that from Denmark. The Danish article had the advantage of nearness; ours could reach the market only after being six. weeks on the voyage, and perhaps two weeks in store as well. Nevertheless he preferred New Zealand butter to Danish at any time. The High Commissioner had been given permission to spend a certain amount of money in bringing these considerations before the consumers.
