THE GRADING RETURNS. A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 7. Figures of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture show that butter graded during January, 1922, was 135,106 cwt, and for the previous January 113,076 cwt., an increase of 18.85 per cent. The total for the six months ended January, 1922, is 633,991 cwt., and for the corresponding period last year 458,687 cwt., an increase of 38.22 per cent. Cheese graded during January, 1922, totalled 202,693 cwt., and that for Jannary, 1921, 166,238 cwt., an increase of 21.82 per cent. The total for six months ended January, 1922, was 716,558 cwt., and for the six months ended January, 1921, 740,506 cwt., a decrease of 3.23 per cent. Converting these figures into butter-fat equivalent there is an increase of 20.51 per cent, in butter-fat production for the six monthly period ended January 31, 1922, over the corresponding period for 1920-21.
