KAPONGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Two enjoyable little dances were held at Kaponga during the past week. The first one was given by Mrs. B. Cleland in honor of two/lady visitors from Auckland. The dance was held in the Oddfellow’s Hall, and those present had a thorough good time, music being supplied*by Mr. and Mrs. McCarty. The second dance was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening to raise funds for the annual picnic of the Anglican Sunday School scholars. Like all Parish Hall dances, it was well attended, and proved a great success, both financially and socially. A tennis match, Okaiawa v. Kaponga, which was to have taken place on Saturday, had to be postponed owing to the unavoidable absence of several Kaponga players. The local club is looking forward with great pleasure to this fixture. The picnic in connection with the Anglican Sunday School was held on Saturday at the Opunake beach, the children being conveyed thither by means of Mr. Allen’s lorry. It was a joyous party that set out, although the weather looked somewhat threatening. Those in charge hired the central hall of the new pavilion for the day, so that the refreshments were partaken of in comfort. During the afternoon Mr. 0. Mee, of the Chautauqua, “blew along” to the pavilion, and good naturedly entertained the young people with some lively dance music. After spending an enjoyable day in the usual beach manner, the party returned to Kaponga at 7 p.m. During the absence of the Rev. C. Palmer, from the Opunake-Kaponga parish, the services will be taken by the Rev. J. E. Blackburn of Te Horo, formerly vicar of Bulls.

The Kaponga cricket team, after being victorious in their matches with the two Hawera teams, suffered defeat on Saturday at the hands of the Manaia Club.
