SPRINGBOK ATHLETES.

VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. SPORTS ON FRIDAY. The South African athletic team which is touring New Zealand, will arrive in New Plymouth by the mail train to-morrow night. A civic reception will be tendered the visitors on the balcony of the Criterion Hotel immediately on arrival. On Thursday the South Africans will indulge in practice on the High School grounds, and during th? afternoon they will be the guests of the Taranaki Jqckey Club at the races. Friday morning will he devoted to sightseeing, the athletic gathering taking place in tne afternoon. The visitors will leave by motor at the conclusion of the sports •programme.

At a meeting of the New Plymouth Athletic Association last night final arrangements were made The following officials were appointed: Referee, Mr. L. B. Webster; track stewards, Messrs. Stagpoole, A. L. Humphries, F. J. Eggleton, and G. Bertrand; judges, Dr. Fookes, Messrs. E. Whittle and J. McLeod; standard judge, Mr. L. A. Nolan; starter, Mr. W. H. Moyes; call stewards, Messrs Pope and Roper; marksmen, Messrs. Diprose and Wynyard; Press steward, Mr. A. L. Moore; result stewards, Messrs. Mcllroy and Crimp; clerk of course, Mr. E. Jackson; timekeepers, Messrs. Dalgleish, Bennett and R. J. Mason; survey and record steward. Mr. F. Willis. Nominations for all the events have exceeded expectations, good fields being in prospect. The grounds have been put in excellent order v and seating accommodation is being provided for about 750 people. The interest taken by athletes from as far away as Hawera is particularly gratifying, and everything points to a successful gathering. The members of the South African athletic team are: Messrs. J. K. AyresOosterlaak, J. W. Bukes, H. P. Kinsman, D. A. Leathern, and R. Johnston, accompanied by Mr. I. Emery, manager.
