BIG SHIPS TRAFFIC.

NEW RECORD FOR MOTUROA 10,000 TONNER TO BERTH. EXPANSION OF EXPORT TRADE. A new record for the port of New Plymouth—the berthing of a linei of over 10,000 tons —will take place nfext month. The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Pakeha, of 10,481 tons gross register, is to visit New Plymouth towards the end of March to load frozen -S’ 1 * and dairy produce. So far no vessel o-r 10,000 tons has yet entered the port, although a number of liners between 8000 and 9000 tons have loaded here. At the present rate it would appear that this year’s record will show a very large increase in the amount ot oversea shipping at New Plymouth, and the berthing space has of late been very much overtaxed. The first liner thia year was the Treleven, with American cargo, which was followed by the Port Albany, which loaded meat and dairy produce. On Friday the Kaikoura: was dispatched with a large consignment of meat and produce. The WaJkawa is now discharging American cargo at the wharf, while the Cape May is standing off awaiting a berth to discharge New York cargo. About the middle of this month the City of Corinth will discharge a cargo -of 6200 tons of coal from Wales, which will probably be the largest cargo ever put out here. The Kaitangata, an in-•ter-colonial cargo steamer, is due on Thursday with cargo from Australian ports, and new vessels are constantly being ,added to the list of expected arrivals. It is interesting to note that each vessel to load during this year haa drawn cargo from all three Taranaki ports, and all those on the waiting list will also take cargo from Smart Road, Waitara and Patea.
