ALLIED VICTORY MEDALS.
1200 DISTRIBUTED. About 80,000 Allied Victory Meda V have to be distributed to ex-members of the N.Z.E.F., and up to the present 1200 have been sent out from Defence Headquarters. Contrary to the procedure adopted in the case ot the British War Medal, the Victory Medals are being issued to those entitled to them in reversed alphabetical order. That is to say, a commencement has been made with those whose names start with the letter Z. This has been done in order to give men with names a long way down the alphabet the chance of an early issue. The R’s have now been reached, and it is likely that most of the medals will have been engraved and despatched by the end of July. Some little delay may occur in distributing the medals to next-of-kin of deceased soldiers, as full inquiries have to be made in all cases where men have been reported killed. Of the British War Medals, some 4000 still remain with, the Defence authorities, these belonging principaily to men discharged overseas and whose addresses have not (been traced yet.
