THE MEAT POOL.

PROPOSED LEGISLATION. AN AUCKLAND OBJECTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Feb. 2. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution' strongly protesting against the reported terms of clause 17 of the Meat Pool Bill, providing the Government guarantee as a preferential treatment of a section of the community at the expense of the remainder, a logical and inevitable result will be the demand of similar concessions for dairying work and other interests if the policy, notwithstanding this protest, be persisted in. We suggest at least a restriction on the rate of interest which may be charged upon advances under State guarantee and the usual reservation of one per centum for the State. In consideration of the guarantee, and also in the public interest, the currency of the measure should be restricted to one year, and thereafter subject to review annually.
