SPREAD OF NOXIOUS WEEDS.
NEED FOR CLOSE SUPERVISION. The need for close inspection to prevent the spread of noxious weeds was brought before the notice of the Clifton County Council yesterday. The subject arose as the outcome of a letter from Mr. D. Mcßean, of Ngatimiro, Uruti, drawing attention to the spread of noxious weeds in that part of the county. He stated, that he had written the noxious weeds inspector for the past two year®, but with no results further than that hjs letter would be attended to. During the seven years that he had resided in the district he had not seen the Government inspector, though he believed that it was hia duty to look round the farms. He asked the council to give the matter of noxious weeds their urgent attention.
The clerk stated that he had written the inspector of noxious weeds on the subject.
Cr. C. H. Barnitt said that the council should certainly take steps •to aeo that the noxious weeds were kept down. One only had to go along the Main Road and eee the amount of .ragwort that was allowed to flower to
recognise the necessity of this. Such land, if the weeds wore unchecked, would depreciate in value and less ratee would be collectable from the’’*
