SEAMEN’S WAGES.
REDUCTIONS AGREED TO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. With reference to recent cables from London stating that further reductions of seamen’s wage® are being made, it is stated that private cable advice is to the effect that an agreement has been arrived at under which the wage® of all ratings of the deck, engine and catering departments will be reduced by 30s per month from March 1 unless the chartering rates show a very appreciable increase in the interim.
A further reduction of <los a month has been agreed to as from May 1. It has also been agreed that the pay of officers and engineers will be reduced •from £3 to £6 monthly, according io rating and seniority. These reductions are in addition to the £2 10s per month as from May 6, 1921.
