THE HOUSING BILL.
STRINGENT CLAUSES ADDET BY UPPER HOUSE. (By Wire.—Our Parliamentary Reporter Wellington, Last Night. The Housing Amendment Bill, which was passed by the House last week, has been amended by the Statutes Revision Committee of the Legislative Council. The Bill provides that the owner or purchaser of a house may secure an order for poe> session if the premises are required for his own occupation. The committee has added a clause providing that the owner shall be liable to • fine of £lOO if he lets the house, or permits any person other than his family and domestic servants to occupy the house, or enters into an agreement for the sale nf the house within six months of the date on which he obtained possession. He may sublet rooms if they are no/ required for the occupation' o' iis ow® family. A term of imprisonment may be imposed if the owner of the house obtains possession by means of a sale agreement that is not a genuine document intended to be carried into effect. ’ Other amending clauses provide that an inspector, as well as the tenant, may take action for the recovery of rent paid in excess of the standard rent, and that it shall be'an fiffence punishable by a fine of £lOO to demand or accept, as a conditio® of the tenancy of house, payment for furniture or fixtures or other effects in excess of their fair selling value.
