OUTBREAK OF INFLUENZA.
SPREADING IN AMERICA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 2, 10.55 p.m. New York, Feb. 1. Eight hundred and twelve cases of influenza were reported in the city today. The deaths from influenza and pneumonia totalled 103. NOT OF VIRULENT TYPE. Received Feb. 2, 10.55 p.m. Melbourne, Feb. 2. Dr. Cumpson, Director-General of Health, referring to the influenza in New York, thinks it unlikely on the known history of the disease, to be a recurrence of the • severe form which travelled round Qie world in 1918. The present outbreak is clearly of a milder type.
